Music
A list of some of my favourite musical artists, including those who continued to make music after the Soviet Union dissolved, as well as bands that were founded only a few years prior (think late 1980s) to 1991.
- NAUTILUS POMPILIUS (nicknamed NAU)
- Founded in 1982, Nau was a highly influential Soviet - later Russian - rock band, with some of their earlier hits being associated with the Perestroika period.
- Personal favourites: Эти реки, Небо и трава, Князь тишины
- ZVUKI MU
- Founded in 1983. Disbanded in 2005, though frontman Pyotr Mamonov reunited the band with new members (called "Brand new Zvuki Mu") in 2015; the group ceased to exist in 2021 due to Mamonov's death.
- Personal favourites: Серый голубь, Отвяжись, Источник заразы
- KINO
- Founded in 1982. Kino was highly influential, going as far as being considered the greatest rock band in the history of Russian music. After Viktor Tsoi's passing, the band dissolved, releasing a final album in 1990 (known colloquially as Black Album, but was never officially named).
- Personal favourites: Хочу Перемен (which became a Perestroika anthem), Группа крови, Кончится лето
- FORUM
- Founded in '83...you know the drill, Forum is considered to be the first synthpop collective in the USSR. They're mostly known for their album Belaya Noch'.
- Personal favourites: Белая ночь, Давайте созвонимся, Островок
